‘Anyone can catch this’ – warns Former Alaska Governor and shared her Covid symptom

Published on

The former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin warned about the serious symptoms of Coronavirus experienced by her and urged the public to continue wearing the face masks to reduce the chances of getting Covid.

While talking to People magazine she highlighted her “bizarre” symptoms and said a number of her family members also got infected.

Mrs Palin said she completely lost her senses of taste and smell making it “unmistakable COVID caught me”.

She continued: “That day I finally tested positive – like millions of other Americans.”

Coronavirus has already killed more than 550,000 Americans, more than in any other country.

Former President Donald Trump was sharply criticised for allowing the virus to run riot across the country whilst opposing lockdowns.

However the US has an effective vaccination programme with 30 percent of the population having received at least one dose whilst 16 percent are fully vaccinated.

Ms Palin explained her ordeal began when “one of my daughters awoke to having lost her sense of taste and small [and]immediately had a positive COVID test”.

She continued: “I then observed symptoms in my son Trig, who curiously is the most enthusiastic mask-wearer, and after our numerous negative tests over the year he tested positive.

“Children with special needs are vulnerable to COVID ramifications so with a high fever he was prescribed azithromycin, which really seemed to help, and I increased amounts of vitamins I put in his puréed food.”

Trig, who was born in 2008, has Downs Syndrome.

Mrs Palin was John McCain’s running mate when he ran for the presidency in 2008, losing to Barack Obama.

Whilst some on the American right have been critical of mask wearing, deeming it unnecessary, the former governor was highly supportive of the practice.

She said: “Through it all, I view wearing that cumbersome mask indoors in a crowd as not only allowing the newfound luxury of being incognito, but trust it’s better than doing nothing to slow the spread.

“And history will show we Masked Singer visitors were masked before being masked was cool.”

Mrs Palin was a contestant on The Masked Singer, a reality show featuring famous people singing with their identities concealed, last year.

She continued: “I strongly encourage everyone to use common sense to avoid spreading this and every other virus out there.”

Earlier this week President Joe Biden insisted 90 percent of US adults would receive a coronavirus vaccine by mid-April.

However Dr Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), warned of “impending doom” as Covid-19 cases continue to rise.

Speaking “off script” at the White House she said: “I’m going to reflect on the recurring feeling I have of impending doom.

“We have so much reason for hope, but right now I’m scared.”

In the past week the number of confirmed coronavirus cases being recorded in the US each day has hit 60,000.

This is an increase of seven percent on the previous week according to the CDC.

President Biden has urged state governors to re-introduce laws mandating the wearing of masks.
