The star, 50, whose real name is Earl Simmons, is claimed to have had an overdose at around 11pn at his home on Friday night.

TMZ reports that a source close to the rapper claims the overdose triggered a heart attack, with doctors warning he may not make it.

Little is known about his current condition, with TMZ reporting a source claims he has ‘some brain activity’ and is being treated in hospital in White Plains, New York.

DMX, who was one of the original stars of Ruff Ryders hip-hop collective and record label, has previously spoken about his drug use, including crack cocaine, and has been to rehab several times.

Rick Ross was among the first to wish DMX well, sharing on his story: ‘Prayers up for DMX the legend, let’s put that in the sky.’

DJ Eric B also shared a photo of him with DMX, telling his followers: ‘Please pray for my brother DMX’.

DMX’s fiancée Desiree Lindstrom had shared a video of him in the car just days earlier as the pair danced along to the radio, captioning the clip: ‘He talking about record us rocking lol he too funny!!!’

The couple share four-year-old son Exodus Simmons who is DMX’s fifteenth child and was born in 2016.

DMX has reportedly struggled with drug addiction throughout his adult life – and has openly addressed the issues within his songs.

In 2016 Page Six reported DMX stopped breathing and had no pulse after suffering a drug overdose in a Westchester parking lot.

Luckily, a medic on hand administered Narcan, an anti-opioid used to reverse the effects of a heroin overdose, according to police.

He is last known to have been in rehab in 2019 following a 12-month sentence for tax evasion.
