On Independence Day, July 4, the United States will receive a new Statue of Liberty from France.

According to the Le Journal du Dimanche reported, France will send the new Statue of Liberty to the United States on June 7, and it will arrive in New York on July 4. It is noted that this statue will be much smaller than its older sister and will reach 2.83 meters.

The Statue of Liberty, which can be seen off the coast of New York today, was a gift from 19th century France in honor of the first century of US independence.

“We wanted to reconnect with this Franco-American history,” said French Ambassador to the United States Philippe Etienne, adding that the Statue of Liberty “is a double symbol, of liberty, but also of welcome.”

Initially, the idea of sending a new statue to the United States came about in July 2019. It had to show the United States that “France stayed loyal to the spirit of friendship” between the two countries, which originated in their common history. France supported what would become the United States in the War of Independence.

The monument will be installed in the garden of the French ambassador’s residence in Washington, DC, where it will remain for ten years.

The French gesture is due to the fact that the US approach to Europe is feeling the vibes of the Biden’s election.

Relations have improved significantly, although some complained about the continuing exclusivity.
