High blood pressure or hypertension is a condition where the force of blood pushing against your arterial walls is constantly too high.

With time, this mechanism may shrink your arteries, increasing your risk of having a heart attack. Fortunately, you can keep high blood pressure away by making reasonable dietary choices.

Certain popular food decisions may pose hidden health risks if you seek to control your blood pressure.

Coffee – a daily necessity for many people – may raise your blood pressure because of its caffeine content.

Caffeine is a natural stimulant found in coffee that increases blood pressure, warns health group Durham Nephrology Associates.

People with hypertension should limit their caffeine intake

If you are a coffee lover, try switching to half-caff coffee, or decaf if you can’t give it up completely.

There are also caffeine-free teas available and certain varieties of tea have very low amounts of caffeine naturally.

Green tea, which typically contains less caffeine than black tea, has been found to bring down blood pressure.

A meta-analysis found that green tea consumption significantly decreases systolic blood pressure.

Systolic blood pressure measures the force your heart exerts on the walls of your arteries each time it beats.
