Evidence shows that the so-called Lambda COVID-19 strain could be more communicable than the Delta, Alpha and Gamma variants, Metro reports, citing health experts.
Furthermore, COVID-19 vaccines may not provide sufficient protection from this strain.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Lambda accounted for 82 per cent of COVID-19 cases in May and June in Peru, which has the highest death rate from coronavirus in the world. Almost one-third of recent cases have been in Chile.
The Lambda version, formerly known as C.37, was discovered in Peru at the end of last year. It has now been detected in 27 countries, including the United Kingdom.
