CVD, known as Cardiovascular disease – a general condition used to describe diseases affecting the heart or blood vessels – is the leading cause of diseases and death around the world.
Serious cardiovascular events are the primary nemesis of longevity, but the good news is that they are avoidable. Even small dietary changes can reduce your risk of a serious cardiovascular event, like a heart attack, according to a new study published in the journal Nutrients.

The study found that adding strawberries to diets could enhance cardio-metabolic risk factors in adults, who are obese or have high “bad” cholesterol.
Cardiometabolic risk can indicate the likelihood of having a cardiovascular event like a heart attack or stroke when one or more risk factors are present.
In the randomized controlled trial, 33 adults (average age 53 years) were given a controlled quantity of strawberry powder per day in four-week phases – equivalent to a single serving or two and a half servings of strawberries each.
Then volunteers were asked to take their usual lifestyles but refrain from eating any other berries.
It found that the equivalent to two-and-a-half daily servings of strawberries significantly improved cardiometabolic risks in this ‘at risk’ population group when compared to the control group – mainly by improving insulin resistance and lipid particle profiles.
