A little-known tropical fruit that reduces bad cholesterol, keeps immune system healthy and relieves inflammation

Published on

The juice of this tropical fruit could reduce weight, cholesterol and blood pressure. Just one ounce of this powerful schemer could make a huge difference to your overall health. But its uncontrolled consumption can be dangerous.

The fruit is high in antioxidants, which may have a number of health benefits for the body, including promoting a healthy immune system and alleviating inflammation.

Few people have heard of noni, the exotic fruit from Polynesia whose properties have been exploited throughout the centuries in traditional oriental medicine.

According to Medical News Today, the consumption of the juice of this tropical fruit produces a whole range of benefits.

Scientifically named morinda citrifolia, and christened in the Caribbean as an anti-pain tree, noni contains powerful antioxidants that can benefit health, support the immune system, and relieve inflammation. The fruit has a strong bitter taste, which is why it is usually consumed in the form of a puree or juice accompanied with other ingredients.

As mentioned by Medical News Today, noni juice may have some analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, which help decrease pain.

Noni is high in vitamin C – one of the most powerful and famous antioxidants.

A study published in the journal Food Science & Nutrition found that noni juice reduces oxidative damage in avid tobacco smokers. Among non-smokers, noni juice causes a reduction in blood pressure and heart rate.

Noni juice can help the heart by lowering blood fat and cholesterol levels and reducing inflammation that can be a risk factor for heart disease.

In addition, according to another study published on the Nutrition Matters, obese people who added noni to a low-calorie diet improved weight loss: reduced body fat, decreased muscle mass loss, observed reduction in waist circumference.

Caution

Although noni juice can be a useful supplement for some people, there are some precautions and side effects to be aware of before consuming it.

Although noni itself is low in sugar, it is common for manufacturers to mix the juice with other types of fruit juice or with added sugars to enhance its flavor.

Scientists advise consulting with your doctor before including noni juice in your diet since, according to some studies, it is not always ideal for patients with kidney or liver problems.

Also, there is not enough evidence on the effects of drinking noni juice during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
