Police say a 2-year-old child accidently shot his mother and younger sibling Wednesday outside a Walmart store in Granbury, Texas.

A two-and-a-half-year-old toddler inside a vehicle outside a Walmart store in Granbury, Texas, accidentally shot the child’s mother and younger brother Wednesday after gaining access to a concealed weapon tucked between the seat and center console, authorities said.

Granbury police reported the incident took place around 11:25 a.m. at a Walmart on U.S. Highway 377 in the town of Granbury.

When the older child picked up the gun and it discharged once, their 23-year-old mother was standing outside the driver’s side door and their 26-year-old father was standing behind the vehicle, authorities said.

The bullet passed through the leg of the child’s 18-month-old sibling before passing through their mother’s arm and into the side of her chest, according to authorities.

According to authorities, the woman was flown to a hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, by helicopter, while the injured toddler was transported to a hospital in Fort Worth by ground ambulance.

While the toddler’s injury was not considered life-threatening, the mother’s was, according to authorities, significantly more serious. Her health status was unknown as of Wednesday afternoon.

Other details, such as the gender of the children and the names of people involved, have not been revealed. There was no indication of whether charges would be filed.

Granbury is located approximately 70 miles southwest of downtown Dallas.
