China lifts restrictions imposed a month ago on 13 million people in Xi’an

Published on

After a decline in the number of coronavirus infections in the northern city of Xi’an, where over thirteen million people live, Chinese officials have declared the end of the confinement imposed a month ago.

Following one month of confinement, the Xian Mayor’s Office stated that the area has been found to be low risk, and the inhabitants could leave the city if they have the appropriate health codes and did not require a certificate.

According to the Chinese daily ‘Global Times,’ persons living in low-risk areas will be able to return to the city if they present a negative antigen test taken 48 hours prior, the aforementioned code, and a summary of their journey.

People travelling from high-risk areas will have to quarantine and pay for their own accommodations, but transportation services in Xian, Shaanxi province’s capital, will restart as usual.

Authorities have also stated that supermarkets and retailers will be able to reopen their doors, as well as restaurants, as long as there is a capacity limit in place and that the distances between diners are respected.

Due to an upsurge in cases following an outbreak reported in this section of the city, Beijing officials conducted coronavirus testing in the Fengtai district, which has a population of two million people, during the day on Sunday.

According to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, approximately a thousand sample collecting locations were constructed, and more than 13,000 health personnel were deployed in the area. During the previous day, a total of nine cases had been confirmed in Beijing.
