Dominic Taddeo confessed in 1992 to being a member of the infamous Sicilian mafia organization La Cosa Nostra, which translates as “our thing” in Italian.

After eluding capture on March 28, Dominic Taddeo, a convicted contract killer for the Rochester, New York-based mafia, was caught by authorities outside of Miami, Florida, on Monday.

Taddeo was due to be released in less than a year, in February 2023, but he chose to leave the halfway house where he had been allocated and did not return for a medical appointment. Authorities put him on “escape status” and initiated a manhunt for him at the time.

He was arrested without incident, according to the US Marshals.

Taddeo pled guilty to racketeering in 1992, admitting to killing three persons as a mafia member and attempting to kill two more men who were supposed to be rival mob captains. He was also found guilty of bail evasion and illegal firearm possession.

Taddeo served the majority of his 30-year term at a medium-security prison in Sumter County, Florida, before being sent to a halfway house in Orlando in February 2022.

Taddeo’s intentions for walking away from the halfway house with less than a year left on his sentence remain a mystery. According to the website of Hussein & Webber, a Florida law practice, eluding custody is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Taddeo petitioned for compassionate release in December 2020, claiming that the COVID-19 pandemic was a threat to his health; however, his plea was denied.
