The 58-year-old actor’s most recent film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, has him play a fictionalized version of himself in the new meta-action, comedy movie, but he’s confessed he’s ‘curious’ to venture into the musical world.

“Right now, I’m excited that the comedy is back on the menu,” Cage said in a new interview. “It hasn’t been there for, gosh, 15 years. That’s nice that I may have the opportunity to do more comedy.”

He has previously entertained audiences in films such as Raising Arizona, Moonstruck, and Kick-Ass, as well as simply by being himself.

However, given the recent rise in cinematic musicals, including Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of West Side Story and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tick, tick… BOOM! with Andrew Garfield, the star is eager to enter that realm.

“But I’ve never done a musical. That would be something that I would be curious about,” he told Rolling Stone.

After a string of excellent reviews, the well-known Elvis Presley aficionado is eager to continue directing independent films.

He continued: “I just want to continue on the roots of the indie drama. That’s my true passion, movies like Pig or Leaving Las Vegas or Joe.

“Bringing Out the Dead – I saw that recently. I have to say that might be the best movie I ever made.”

Meanwhile, Cage, who recently delighted fans when shots of him dressed as Dracula from the set of Universal’s upcoming film Renfield emerged online, stated his dream role is Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo.

They both love the ocean, which is why the Oscar winner wants to play the role.

During a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA), he also stated that people shouting memorable lines from his films at him in public do not upset him.

“I don’t have a problem with any of the quotes, I’m glad they remember the movie.”

Cage also stated that he would be down for Face/Off 2, which we can all appreciate. So, who’s informing John Travolta and when can we make this happen?
