Pokémon Sword and Shield: Release, new features and Pokemon

With Pokémon Sword and Shield two new editions for the Nintendo Switch will be released in 2019. You will hunt for many new Pokémon in the Galar region, which for the first time can turn into huge Dynamax Pokémon.

Here you can find all important information about the 8th generation, the release date, new features and Pokémon and watch the trailer of the game.

During the Pokémon Day on February 27, 2019 Nintendo presented in a Pokémon Direct edition for the first time the games Pokémon sword and Pokémon shield and release date. Both editions will be released on November 15, 2019 worldwide the same day for the Nintendo Switch. In the role-playing games, you set out to explore the new Galar region, where you’ll find and catch many never before seen 8th generation Pokémon. In addition, you face many new challenges.

Pokémon warehouse and fashion show

Nintendo will show you how to beat time in Pokémon Sword and Shield away from battles with the above video released during a Nintendo Direct in early September 2019. Stylish your character with new clothes or cook curry with different ingredients for your Pokémon.

For the first time in the trailer, the camp will be shown. Here you let your Pokémon romp around and play with them. You can also invite other players into your camp and, conversely, visit your friends’ camps. All this you can see in the video above.

Galar forms and new sword and shield attacks

In mid-August 2019, the developers show in a trailer new attacks and abilities of many Pokémon from the Galar region. Particularly powerful is the ability of Galar smogmog, which makes all other abilities ineffective.

Incidentally, there are many unique pocket monsters in the Galar region, including Galar smogmog, that you have never seen before in any other Pokémon game. Instead of Alola forms appear in sword and shield namely for the first time Galar forms. These are well-known, but also completely new Pokémon that have adapted their type and appearance to the Galar region.

Both smogmog and zigzachs and geradaks have special galar shapes. In addition, Geradaks will receive a further development with Barrikadax. Also new is the Pikachu-like hamster monster Morpeko, which has two forms at once.

In addition, your rivals are known in the game. Not only Betys but also Mary compete with you for the title of Pokémon Master. Mary even brings her own fan club Team Yell.

For the first time Dynamax monsters and co-op raids

The successor games to Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, in addition to many already known pocket monsters, also provide many new Pokémon for you to catch. New features await you as well, including a large open world, co-op raids for up to four players, and the previously mentioned Dynamax Pokémon. These are huge versions of pocket monsters that you can catch and even use in combat, but that will change back after a while.

Even the starter Pokémon of the Galar region are known. They are called Chimpep, Hopplo and Memmeon. Chimpep is the Starter Pokémon of the type plant and is similar to a chimpanzee, Hopplo is the fire creature among the starters and looks like a rabbit. The somewhat timid-looking Memmeon, however, is a water Pokémon, which is modeled after a lizard.

Pokémon sword and shield with big open world

In the Galar region you not only catch a lot of new Pokémon but also meet other trainers, train your Pokémon to make them stronger, and you fight back in arenas to become the best trainer in the world.

The Galar region has a variety of areas, from idyllic villages on modern cities to snow-capped peaks. In all these regions Pokémon appear depending on the weather and the environment.

Pokémon sword and shield: differences of the editions

As in all previous Pokémon generations, Pokémon Sword and Shield come on the market as two separate editions, the content of which is similar to most. However, both editions each have some exclusive content that is not included in the other.

These include not only exclusive Pokémon but also arenas in the game. You have to put in Pokémon sword, for example, the battle Arena manager Saida. In Pokémon Shield, you must instead take on the sinister Spirit Arena Leader Nio.
