The data given by John Hopkins University shows that the deaths due to COVID-19 have crossed the combined number of deaths that occurred in 2019 due to illnesses such as chronic respiratory diseases, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, influenza, and pneumonia.
Despite the decline in infections by almost 77% in recent weeks, the total number of deaths has shot up to 498,000 which is equivalent to the population of the city of Kamas. Dr. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has suggested that along with wearing masks, Americans might have to get a “booster shot depending on how variants emerge.”

As reported by the NBC news, some experts have speculated that the infections could drop very low during the summers. It may also push people to think that they do not require a vaccination anymore, and by then winters will strike in with a new wave of infections!
Scott Gottlieb, the former FDA commissioner stated to the CBS News the pandemic has taken a “tragic toll” on the country. He suggested that the spring and summer might witness falling cases of infection. He pointed out that this should enable vaccine manufacturing companies such as Pfizer “to prepare much better for the fall.”
In NBC’s Meet the Press program, Dr. Fauci called the rate of decline “really terrific” but the infections continue to remain high.
“We want to get that baseline really, really, really low before we start thinking that we’re out of the woods,” he added.

The data reveals that less than 15% of Americans have received one dose of vaccination. The lockdown restrictions have also been eased in some areas with the opening of restaurants and schools.
This has also put millions of others at risk, including teachers and students.
On the financial front, although the economists are hopeful of the year ahead, the pandemic has overburdened the economy already. The $1.9 trillion pandemic relief package announced by President Joe Biden is also underway and is expected to be passed by March 14.
