When consumed in moderation, persimmon has no major side effects. Certain people may be allergic to persimmons and have symptoms such as upset stomach, nausea, or, in extreme cases, anaphylactic shock, and should avoid eating them.
According to health experts consulted by Revyuh Team, ingesting very large quantities of persimmon can lead to the formation of phytobezoar in the stomach – a dense ball of plant fibers.
As persimmons contain both indigestible dietary fibre and tannins, phytobezoar, a thick ball of plant fibres, can form when the stomach’s secretory function is insufficient.
They also advised that persimmons should not be consumed as a dessert after lunch or supper, or at night, as they might cause stomach heaviness and discomfort.
In addition, children, the elderly and those who suffer from diabetes should not abuse the berry.
Persimmon contains many vitamins and minerals, so it is useful for the prevention of vitamin deficiency, iron deficiency anemia and replenishment of iodine deficiency.
