Goodbye, Olive Oil: Expert Reveals A Healthier Option That Minimizes Alzheimer’s Dementia Risk By Improving Brain Function

Dementia is a terrible disease for both the person who has it and their family and friends. It is a collection of symptoms that are often linked to aging and indicate a deterioration in brain function. This can make it hard to remember, act, or move around.

There is currently no recognized treatment for dementia, however, there are certain things you can do to lessen your risk.

It is often said that eating a balanced, nutritious diet, like the Mediterranean diet, will help maintain your brain healthy for a longer period of time.

Yet, one professional suggested include a certain kind of oil in your diet to improve learning and memory.

Claudia le Feuvre, a resident nutrition specialist at Goldster, discussed the advantages of MCT oil in an exclusive interview with Express.

Citing studies, the expert said that “taking MCT oil can increase brain energy, by up to nine percent.”

MCT oil is made from coconut oil. 

And it “can be incorporated into your diet by adding a spoonful into your smoothies or replacing the olive oil on your salad dressings.

“Not only is MCT oil helpful for brain health, it is also a good source of energy and can help manage conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.”

Several studies support her claims.

In one research published in the Nutrition Journal in 2013, eight people were given MCT for four weeks.

More precisely, they took an MCT supplement four times each day for one week, totaling 20 grams, then for three weeks, 30 grams per day.

The study found: “This MCT supplementation protocol was mildly and safely ketogenic and had no side effects in healthy humans on their regular diet.

“This degree of ketonemia is estimated to contribute up to eight to nine percent of brain energy metabolism.”

Another research, published in Alzheimer’s and Dementia journal in 2022, examined the use of MCT oil on 20 individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, the most prevalent type of dementia.

The participants used 1.8 tablespoons (25 grams) of MCT oil daily on average.

Eighty percent of individuals demonstrated “stabilization or improvement in cognition” after a period of six or twelve months.

Ketone compounds, some of which are present in MCT oil, have been proposed as a cause.

“The expanding basic science and clinical research highlighting the physiological and clinical basis for efficacy of ketone supplementation, raises an intriguing and hopeful new therapeutic addition for Alzheimer’s disease dementia treatment,” the author wrote.

Common dementia early signs include:

  • Loss of memory
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Struggling to do routine activities
  • struggling to understand a discussion or come up with the proper phrase
  • being uncertain about the date and time
  • mood swings
