The Healthy Drink You’re Having Right Now Can Increase Your Risk of Parkinson’s Disease, Warns Study

Published on

Parkinson’s disease is characterized as a degenerative and progressive neurological condition. It affects the brain and gradually worsens as time goes on.

With the combination of increased life expectancy and improved survival rates for other illnesses like cancer, Parkinson’s disease has become the fastest-growing neurodegenerative disorder worldwide. According to statistics from the World Health Organization, it is projected that nearly nine million individuals will be living with Parkinson’s disease globally by the year 2030.

While the exact cause of Parkinson’s disease remains unknown, ongoing research indicates that a combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors likely contribute to its development.

It is worth noting that the choice of beverage consumed daily can be a potential risk factor.

If you’re feeling thirsty, it’s best to choose water as your go-to beverage. For additional health benefits, you can consider green tea or black coffee.

However, it’s advisable to limit your regular consumption of milk due to recent findings linking it to an increased risk of Parkinson’s disease.

A comprehensive review published in Nutritional Neuroscience examined 52 studies conducted between 2000 and the present. These studies consisted of randomized clinical trials, observational case-control studies, and follow-up studies that investigated the impact of nutrition on the development and progression of Parkinson’s disease.

The research analyzed various factors such as coffee, alcohol, vitamins, polyphenols, dairy products, and the Mediterranean diet, determining their influence on the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease.

The results indicated that polyphenols, polyunsaturated fatty acids, coffee, and the Mediterranean diet were all associated with a reduced risk or slowed progression of Parkinson’s disease. Conversely, milk consumption was found to increase the risk.

In summary, it is advisable to consume dairy products, including milk, in moderation to limit the intake of saturated fats. The findings on the role of nutrition in Parkinson’s disease underscore the importance of mindful dietary choices for maintaining overall health.
