These are the foods that stain your teeth

If you’re a tea connoisseur or like the occasional glass of red wine, you’re probably all too acquainted with the impact of these beverages on your teeth. Tea and red wine are two of the most common culprit that can leave stains on your teeth.

However, there are many other foods and beverages that may stain or discolour your teeth.

Certain foods and beverages contain chemical molecules called chromogens, which may discolour our teeth.

Additionally, foods and beverages containing a chemical called tannin may make your teeth much more prone to staining. Acids may erode your teeth, increasing the likelihood of staining.

In general, if anything is staining your clothing or tongue, it is likely to stain your teeth as well.

The following are some of the most prevalent foods and beverages that may discolour your teeth. Contrary to popular belief, some of them may also include vitamins and minerals with many health advantages!

Foods harmful to teeth

Tea and coffee: Tannins, which are found in both tea and coffee, induce discoloration. There’s some evidence that increasing the amount of milk in your tea or coffee may assist to prevent stains.

Red wine: It’s OK to have a glass of wine now and again. Red wine, on the other hand, is one of the most frequent causes of tooth staining.

Cola: Cola is a no-no for your teeth because of its dark colour and acids that erode away at your teeth.

Fruit juices: Fruit juices with dark colours, such as cranberry, blueberry, and grape juices, are more likely to stain your teeth.

Tomato-based sauces: Tomatoes are an excellent provider of a variety of vital nutrients. However, the pigment that gives them their rich red colour makes them a major staining offender.

Curry: With its intense, dark hue, it’s unsurprising that eating a lot of curries may leave tell-tale marks on your teeth.

Balsamic vinegar: While balsamic vinegar makes an excellent salad dressing, its dark coloration means you must be cautious of its impact on your teeth.

Soy sauce: While soy is a traditional ingredient in every excellent stir-fry, the dark colour of soy may linger on your teeth long after your meal is done.

Berries: Consuming a handful of berries may help you meet your five-a-day requirement. However, berries, with all their health benefits, are another teeth discoloration cause.

Beetroot: Beetroot is loaded in vitamins and minerals, and its health advantages have been touted. However, if you’ve ever handled beetroot, you’re well aware of how staining it can be.

Turmeric: In addition, the specialist highlighted the coloring properties of turmeric. This spice harbors a host of benefits. Thus, this antioxidant protects the vessels and slows down aging. 

But at the same time it can affect the color of your teeth.
