Donald Trump reappears after leaving the presidency: “Do you miss me yet?”

The former US president participated in the annual event of the American conservatives. “Who knows, he may decide to beat them for the third time,” he said, sliding the possibility of being a candidate in 2024, and insisting that he was a victim of fraud last November.

Donald Trump returned to the political scene this Sunday before an ultra-conservative public, determined to regain control of a weakened Republican Party, which wonders if the former US president will be able to win the presidential elections of 2024.

“Do you miss me already?” said the former US president jokingly, exploding his audience at the great annual event of the American conservatives, which began on Friday in Orlando (Florida). “Who knows, he may decide to beat them for the third time,” he added, sliding the possibility of being a candidate in 2024, and insisting that he was a victim of fraud last November.

Although the 45th US president was well received – many participants in the meeting wore hats, flags, and objects bearing his name and there was even a statue of the billionaire in the middle of the conference room – his figure raises divisions within his party. His four years in office ended with the loss of the White House and Congress, as well as an impeachment against him.

However, the former president took the opportunity to dispel rumors: “I will continue fighting with you … They keep saying ‘he is going to start a new party’, we have the Republican Party, which is going to unite and be stronger than ever. I’m not starting a new game, that was fake news ”.

“No matter how much the Washington establishment and the powerful special interests want to silence us, let there be no doubt. We will be victorious and the United States will be stronger and bigger than ever,” he promised.

Refusing to admit he lost the November 3 presidential election to Joe Biden, Trump offered a withering critique of his Democratic successor’s first weeks in office and suggested he might run again.

“Joe Biden has had the most disastrous first month of any president in modern history … In just one month, we have gone from being the first to being the last,” he said. And he added ironic: “They call it anti-employment, anti-family, anti-frontiers, anti-energy, anti-women and anti-science.” “In a short month we have gone from America First (US first) to America Last (US last),” he said.

In addition, he warned, “As we gather here, we are in the midst of a historic struggle for America’s future, America’s culture, America’s institutions, borders, and most precious principles.” “Our security, our prosperity and our own identity as Americans are at stake like perhaps no other time,” he began.

The results of an informal poll of CPAC conference participants gave Trump a strong show of support with 55 percent saying they would vote for him in the 2024 Republican presidential nomination race. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, came in second with 21 percent.

Without Trump, DeSantis led the poll with 43 percent, while other potential Republican candidates had single-digit preferences.

A separate question in the poll asked whether Trump should run again in 2024 and resulted in a mixed result: 68 percent said he should run and 32 percent said they opposed or had no opinion.

“It’s hard to get seven out of 10 to agree on anything,” pollster Jim McLaughlin told CPAC when explaining the results.

Trump’s fervor at the four-day conservative event, CPAC for its acronym, has been so strong that Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. called it the “T-PAC” and participants displayed a golden statue of the former president.
