A Texas congressman plans to present a legislative initiative to promote a referendum in which the residents of the state decide whether they want to separate from the United States.

“The federal government is out of control & doesn’t represent the values of Texans. That is why I am committing to file legislation that will allow a referendum to give Texans a vote for the State of Texas to reassert its status as an independent nation”

twits Republican lawmaker Kyle Biedermann.

Lawmaker seeks to promote this initiative in accordance with Article 1, Section 2, of the Texas Constitution that says that “All political power is inherent in the people, and all free governments are founded on their authority, and instituted for their benefit. The faith of the people of Texas stands pledged to the preservation of a republican form of government, and, subject to this limitation only, they have at all times the inalienable right to alter, reform or abolish their government in such manner as they may think expedient.”

It is not the first time in the history of Texas that there is talk of independence, in fact, in 1861 when the Civil War began, this state separated from the United States and joined the Confederate States of America. However, during the height of Reconstruction in 1870, the US Congress reinstated Texas to the Union.

The state of Texas has supported this option as a constitutional right several times throughout its history. However, the initiative of the Republican legislator Biedermann revives in the US by chance when the preliminary results of the November 3 presidential election give the Democratic party the winner.
