Covid-19 deaths increased by 4% globally, says WHO

The coronavirus incidence rate dropped nearly fivefold, whereas the death rate soared.

During the week of February 7 to February 13, 16,097,642 persons around the world were infected with the coronavirus, and 74,494 people died as a result of the infection. Those findings were made public by the World Health Organization (WHO) on February 15.

Approximately 16 million new cases and slightly less than 75 000 new deaths were recorded across the six WHO areas. As of 13 February 2022, there have been over 409 million confirmed cases and over 5.8 million deaths worldwide.

The Western Pacific Region reported a 19 percent increase in new weekly cases, while the South-East Asia Region (37 percent decrease), the Americas Region (32 percent decrease), the African Region (30 percent), the European Region (16 percent), and the Eastern Mediterranean Region (16 percent) all reported decreases (12 percent).

The number of new weekly deaths grew in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (38 percent) and the Western Pacific Region (27 percent) as well as the African Region (14 percent) and the Americas Region (5 percent), while it stayed unchanged in the European Region and fell in the South-East Asia Region (9 percent ).
