At least 70 defenders of Ukraine were killed in the Sumy region after the Russian military shelled a military base in Ukraine.

According to regional governor Dmytro Zhyvytskyy, the attack took place in Okhtyrka in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region on Monday.

Video reveals the damage at the scene, including piles of rubble, a burned-out building, and a car.

Russia is facing growing isolation as a result of its invasion of Ukraine, with robust opposition on the ground denying President Vladimir Putin major early wins despite intense bombardment and a massive military convoy outside the capital, Kyiv.

“Barbaric rocket attacks and MLRS (multiple launch rocket systems) of peaceful cities are evidence that they are no longer able to fight armed Ukrainians,” said Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov.

Russia’s ceasefire talks with its southern neighbor ended without a breakthrough on Monday, and mediators have not indicated when the next session will take place.

“What I think is pretty certain is Russia is off their timeline. I think they thought that within 72 hours they’d hold Kyiv,” U.S. Republican Senator Marco Rubio said after a classified briefing with top Biden administration officials.

But fighting on multiple fronts had its costs.

According to the UN refugee agency, more than 500,000 people have fled Ukraine, sparking a refugee crisis as others wait for entry at European border crossings.

Ukraine is running low on vital medical supplies, according to public health experts, and fears of a larger public health crisis are developing as people evacuate their homes and health services and supplies are disrupted.

Fearing an escalation between the world’s two nuclear powers, Washington has ruled out sending soldiers to battle Russia or implementing a no-fly zone as Ukraine has demanded.

However, the US and its allies have pledged military assistance to Kyiv, despite President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s warning that the capital was under constant threat.

Today is predicted to see an increase in the number of enterprises leaving Russia.

Shell, BP, and Equinor, a Norwegian oil company, have said that they will quit their positions in Russia, which relies on oil and gas export earnings.
