According to an announcement from the Russian Defense Ministry on Sunday, Russian forces targeted four Ukrainian ammunition depots in the Zaporozhye region, as well as in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

As Ukraine intensifies its readiness for a counter-offensive, the frequency of Russian assaults on Kyiv and other areas has been on the rise. A senior Ukrainian security official revealed to the BBC on Saturday that the country is fully prepared to initiate such an operation. Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of Ukraine’s influential National Security and Defense Council, stated that an assault to regain control of territory from President Vladimir Putin’s occupying forces could commence “tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, or within a week.”

Ukraine has been meticulously planning its counter-offensive for several months, aiming to maximize training for troops and acquire military equipment from Western allies. Meanwhile, Russian forces have been fortifying their defenses in the seized regions of southeastern Ukraine.

Both sides have witnessed an increase in drone attacks. Russia’s targets extend beyond critical national infrastructure, encompassing military objectives as well. Notably, Russia appears determined to deplete Ukraine’s supply of air defense missiles while also inflicting damage upon the missile launch systems themselves.

Conversely, Ukraine has been strategically targeting vital locations within the areas occupied by Russian forces. This includes command and control sites, logistical supply lines, and even oil storage centers. The frequency of military engagements between both sides seems to be intensifying as anticipation builds for Ukraine’s highly anticipated counter-offensive.

In recent weeks, Russia has accused Kyiv of launching heavy artillery and mortar shelling in the Belgorod region. Consequently, the governor of Belgorod issued an immediate directive on Sunday, ordering the closure of all schools along the border with Ukraine as well as in Belgorod city for the summer.
