Homicide investigators are probing the shooting death of a woman who was found Friday afternoon in a Compton street.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched just before 2 p.m. to a report of a person down in the 1400 block of West 155th Street, according to Lt. Charles Calderaro.

Deputies found a 34-year-old Latina woman shot once in the upper torso laying in the roadway. She was pronounced dead on the spot by paramedics.

According to Calderaro, the woman was riding a dirt bike at the corner of 154th Street and Nestor Avenue when she was shot. After being shot, she continued riding her dirt bike forward before collapsing in the area where deputies found her.

Calderaro stated that the unidentified woman did not live in the neighborhood, which is located between Laurel Street Elementary School and Compton/Woodley Airport.

“We don’t know if she was targeted or if she was caught in the middle of something,” the lieutenant said.

As of Friday evening, detectives had no suspect descriptions.
