The new strain has features of previously identified “British” and “South African” mutations – scientists.

Scientists have discovered in Finland a new mutation of coronavirus, which has properties of both British and South African strains.

A previously unknown mutation was discovered by specialists from the Finnish laboratory Vita Laboratoriot Oy together with scientists from the Institute of Biotechnology at the University of Helsinki.

The mutation was named Fin-796H and was identified in one of the samples taken in southern Finland.

The new strain has features of both British and South African strains, and “mutations in this variant make it difficult for at least one of the WHO-recommended PCR tests to detect coronavirus.”

At the same time, according to Finnish specialists, there is no reason for panic, since this variant of the virus has been detected by most of the tests used.
