Ireland: At Least 7 Killed In Petrol Station Blast

Published on

Local volunteers and emergency workers from both sides of the Irish border worked all night to find any possible survivors in the rubble from Friday’s blast.

According to the National Police Service of Ireland (Garda), an explosion at a service station in Co. Donegal, Ireland, has left seven individuals dead and a number of children missing.

The explosion took place on October 7 at an Applegreen in Creeslough.

At the moment, the most likely cause of the tragic event on the forecourt, which has several apartments above the shop at the gas station, is thought to be a gas leak.

Currently, a search operation is underway, and sniffer dogs are being used to look for presumed missing individuals. Most likely, there will be additional fatalities.

On what he called “the darkest of days” for Donegal and Ireland, Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin took to Twitter to express his condolences to the families and friends of those who died and to the whole community of Creeslough.

The blast looked to have completely destroyed the apartment building’s upper level, with large sections of its front and roof collapsing. Masonry that was propelled by the blast’s force damaged several cars.
