Two S-Bahn trains running in opposite directions collide near Munich 1 dead and several injured

In Schäftlarn, near Munich, there was a serious S-Bahn accident. A train and a freight train collided. According to the authorities, “at least” one person has died. During the evening, a train driver had to be cut out of the wreckage, and the number of injured had risen to 18.

According to a police spokesman, the passenger killed was a 24-year-old Afghan. 25 inmates from the two S-Bahn were also taken care of on an outpatient basis.

BILD reporter Simon Czura reports that the injured were taken to the hospital in regular buses. The forces are preparing for a long night.

At around 4:35 p.m., the two trains are said to have collided in the area of ​​the Ebenhausen-Schäftlarn S-Bahn station, south of Munich.

In total, there were about 95 people on two trains.

The route is currently closed.

According to initial findings, the trains south of Munich were traveling in the opposite direction. The railway line is single track in this area. The police spokesman said why both trains were running on the route at the same time is the subject of the investigation.

“This is terrible news. We mourn with the relatives and wish all those injured in the S-Bahn accident a speedy recovery. Thanks to all the rescue workers for their quick action,” twitted Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder.

Around 680 emergency services from the federal and state police, fire brigade, rescue services and technical relief organization were involved in the rescue work and the recovery of the trains.
