Netflix splurges more than $30m on securing the documentary from Kanye West

Following success with concert films from the likes of Ariana Grande, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift, Netflix has reportedly splurged more than $30m on securing the documentary from Kanye West, which is being produced by Clarence ‘Coodie’ Simmons and Chike Ozah.

According to Billboard, Kanye has actually been making the documentary for the past 21 years so fans will likely get to see everything from the very start of his career.

Simmons in particular has seen and captured it all as he’s been filming Kanye, 43, since the late 1990s.

The film is expected to chart the All Of The Lights rapper when he began working with Jay Z and Roc-A-Fella Records as a producer to his only solo success, but also the trials and tribulations of his personal life, including the death of his mother Donda West.

However, it’s not yet known how much of Kanye’s mental health battle in recent years or his marriage and now divorce from wife Kim will be featured.

Simmons and Ozah couldn’t be more perfect choices to helm the project as they worked on the music video for Kanye’s debut single, Through The Wire, in 2003 and on the third version of Jesus Walks.

Kanye is said to have given his approval for the documentary to move forward with Netflix and it’s expected to arrive on the streaming platform later this year.

Until then, glimpses of Kanye’s personal life are being shown through Kim’s reality series Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

Viewers have so far seen Kim, 40, having intense phone conversations during scenes filmed last summer when Kanye embarked on his Twitter rants.

In the most recent episode, the TV star explained to sisters Khloe and Kourtney: ‘It’s no secret that everyone sees things in the media about my life with Kanye.

‘But I’ve always been really respectful in not talking about [our] issues… I mean, you guys clearly see them on Twitter, so I’m still gonna choose to not really talk about it here.

‘I try to just support him. I don’t want to talk about it on camera. I just don’t want to talk about Kanye or anything.’
