A man armed with an automatic weapon opened fire on the streets of Bnei Brak, east of Tel Aviv, on Tuesday evening, March 29. He slaughtered pedestrians and drivers in a deliberate manner before staging a shootout with police, in which he died. It killed a total of five persons.

Two police officers shot and killed the gunman shortly before 8 p.m., after he opened fire on individuals walking, riding bikes, or driving in their cars in the city east of Tel Aviv. One of the two officers was injured in the event and died in the hospital as a result of his injuries.
The attack, which was the third deadly terror strike in a week, heightened fears of a rising wave of violence ahead of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month.

Officials claimed that four of the victims died at the scene, with the fifth – police officer Amir Khoury, 32 — being added to the fatalities after being rushed to Beilinson Medical Center.
Diaa Hamarsheh, a Palestinian from Ya’bad near Jenin in the West Bank who was in Israel illegally, was identified by security officials as a terrorist.
Later Tuesday, according to local reports, there were celebrations outside his family’s home.
Last weekend, two officers were hurt in a suspected stabbing attack in East Jerusalem’s Ras al-Amud neighborhood, and an Israeli man was stabbed and lightly hurt when he was out jogging on Jerusalem’s Hebron Road.
Earlier this month, there were several attacks in Jerusalem’s Old City, and in a nearby West Bank town.
Israeli officials had expressed fears that violence could ratchet up alongside Ramadan, which begins in early April.
