In the UK, woman found dead child in a plastic bag in the freezer

Those involved in the incident have already been detained by police.

A man described the horrifying scene that greeted him when he opened a plastic bag and discovered a dead newborn baby that had been stashed in a freezer.

Darnell Jackson, a 23-year-old shop worker, rushed to a house on Norman Crescent, Rossington, Doncaster, sometime between 11.30 a.m. and noon.

Carol Hirst, his 28-year-old partner, had told him to come around after she had seen the baby. Darnell stated that he wanted to ensure that it wasn’t a doll.

He said: “I thought she must be telling the truth but I had to go and check for myself.

“Carol said to me: ‘There’s a dead baby’ and that’s when she hung up.

“Carol was on the phone to the police and I had to go through the first living room and I walked through the second living room and saw the plastic Herons bag which had been moved from the freezer by two children.

“I just literally grabbed the bag to take a look and straight away I could tell it was a dead baby as Carol and I had just had our own baby girl so I knew there was no doubt in my mind.

“The baby was in the foetal position. You could see that the skin was frozen, there was a lot of frost on its legs.

“I was shocked and speechless. I work at the local supermarket Herons just across from our house and I recognised the bag immediately.

“I left then as I couldn’t stay in the house and I had a cigarette in the garden to calm my nerves. I felt physically sick and waited for the police to arrive.”

Carol said: “I was traumatised by what I had seen and I had to come home and see my own baby, Ivy Marie Jackson.”

A newborn baby’s body was discovered at a residence in Doncaster, and two women, aged 17 and 45, have been detained on suspicion of murder.

South Yorkshire Police officers and the ambulance service were called to Norman Crescent in Rossington at 12.15pm on Thursday, however, the baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

The arrested pair is still in police custody.

Temporary Superintendent Jamie Henderson said: “This is an extremely tragic case and I know the local community, and those further afield, will be very upset to hear about what has happened.

“At this time, our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death is in the very early stages and we ask the public not to speculate about the case.

“There is a cordon in place on Norman Crescent in the Rossington area while our officers carry out their work, and therefore we are asking members of the public to avoid the area at this time.”
