Russian State Duma purposes taking blood from Ukrainian POWs forcefully

A member of Russia’s State Duma, Sergey Leonov, has advocated taking the blood of Ukrainian prisoners of war (POW) to treat wounded civilians and Russian soldiers, according to Euromaidan Press.

“Naturally, we are talking about reasonable donations, and only for those whose health allows it,” said the lawmaker, according to the website.

Lyudmyla Leontiyivna Denisova, a Russian-born Ukrainian elected as Ombudsman for Human Rights in Ukraine appealed to the US commission to investigate the matter.

She posted on Facebook: “In the Russian State Duma, they propose to force prisoner Ukrainian military to donate blood for wounded invaders, this fact indicates an analogy of atrocities, Nazis in concentration camps during World War II.”

She further added: “Such a practice of forced donation was common in Nazi concentration camps. The prisoners of Buhenwald, who survived, mentioned that they took blood from them for the soldiers of Vermacht, while people were starving and forced to work. Russia grossly violates article 26 of the Geneva convention on the treatment of prisoners of the military.

“Appeal to the UN Commission on the investigation of human rights violations during the military invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine to consider these facts of violations of the rights of the prisoners of the armed forces of Ukraine.”
